What is NURS?

Nurses United for Responsible Services (NURS) is the only Massachusetts organization exclusively representing the interest of Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses in the political and managed care arena.

Our Roots....

NURS began in 1975 as Nurse’s United for Reimbursement of Services, a grass roots organization established to initiate and pass the law mandating third party reimbursement for the Psychiatric CNS.

In this era of changing roles and shrinking budgets, it has become increasingly important for NURS to diligently protect our rights and our hard earned professional gains. Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurses deserve fiscally viable opportunities to practice. Legislative advocacy secures this and has proven to be an absolute necessity to advance and preserve our role in access to quality health care.

Strength in numbers and connections....

We have over 1000 practitioners in MA who have a legitimate voice in our practice and interests, yet we only hear from a fraction of them. Imagine our collective voice on issues of interest to us and our patients. Similarly, political strength has been enjoyed by our professional colleagues. Psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists have a strong presence at the legislative level. NURS provides for our voice at the table and when unified with our colleagues, can profoundly impact the delivery of mental health services.
